The 2016 Tri-County Restaurant Association Scholarships & Community Harvest Celebrity Cuisine Donation were presented at the general membership and board meeting and luncheon in July at Kozmo’s Grille. The recipients of the TCRA scholarships were Brittney Costa from Marlington High School and Rosa Forchione from St. Thomas Aquinas.
The Massillon Woman’s Club sponsored its annual Daffodil Luncheon in April at the historically significant Five Oaks Mansion. The club’s Daffodil Luncheon, chaired by Carole Moock, was held in the mansion’s main parlors and featured a spring style show by Chico’s of Belden Village, a door prize raffle, live music by Steve Dallas and festive yellow floral decor.
The Canton Woman’s Club sponsored a fundraiser luncheon in June entitled “Wedding Memories.” The luncheon featured unique decor, a display of members’ beautiful vintage wedding gowns, musical entertainment, plus a special speaker, Kim Kenney, curator of the Wm. McKinley Presidential Library & Museum.
The Canton Woman’s Club sponsored an afternoon musical program featuring Broadway hits by Steve Dallas, playing the Steinway grand piano, and Mark Atkins, vocalist and founder of Meyer’s Lake Dinner Theater. Held in August, the event also featured a sumptuous full-course lunch that was served in the club’s main dining room.
In May, more than 450 guests celebrated the 47th annual Angel Auction, “Angels Rock!” Led by event chairs Brenda Basso and Leda Kendig, along with their dedicated committee of more than 200 volunteers, the evening opened with a rock star red carpet runway to more than 300 live and silent auction items.
It was a fourth of July weekend but Sharon O’ Brien, an intensive care physician, was not celebrating. A medical error earlier landed a patient in her ICU. The patient eventually died—and she had to decide what to tell the patient’s family.
