Notables: One Book, One Community

The Stark County District Library has announced the latest One Book, One Community title— ”Wonder” by R.J. Palacio—and unveiled an incredible lineup of events to celebrate the powerful message of kindness that the book conveys.

Enshrinement Festival

The 2014 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival began with the Queen Pageant in May followed by the Balloon Classic/Jackson-Belden Food Fest & Fireworks in July. During a 2 1/2-week period, nearly 700,000 people enjoyed 23 diverse events, all celebrating the enshrinement of the Class of 2014 in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Healthy Woman Event

The annual Affinity Medical Center Healthy Woman event took place in June in the Piazza Room at La Pizzaria. The event began with a free Women’s Health Expo followed by dinner, a runway-style fashion show and a keynote speech by Lisa Whelchel, who is a mother, author, health advocate, motivational speaker, finalist on the CBS hit “Survivor: Philippines” and childhood star from “The Facts of Life,” in which she played Blair Warner. 

Feast of Ideas

In May, TomTod Ideas held its first fundraising gala, the Feast of Ideas, at the Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography in Canton. Music for the evening was provided by The Scenic Route.

Route 30 wine travelog

Wedding spotlight: Dan and Breanna Caslow

mutual friend introduced Dan Caslow and Breanna Smith in March 2011. On their first date, they went to Panini’s to watch Ohio State University vs. Tennessee in the March Madness tournament. During the next year and a half, the couple enjoyed Cleveland Browns home opener games, Cavs games, WWE pay-per-view matches and a vacation to Myrtle Beach.

There’s a hip, earthy, industrial vibe to many of the home-furnishings options at Bird’s Nest Furniture in Jackson Township. The vast, 10,000-square-foot store has numerous pieces, many imported from India, that utilize recycled metal and exotic woods.
