hale began as a distribution-only brewery in downtown Canton in 2014. The brewery, a “craft brewery for the working people” is on a mission “to produce fresh, flavorful beers using the finest traditional, 100% pure, natural ingredients and the best of both old and new brewing techniques,” according to its website at shalebrewing.com. Like the name implies, its beers are themed after the oil and gas industry.
Royal Docks is an English-style brewpub inspired by the owner’s time in London that “fuses the craft beer renaissance with British pub culture in a contemporary, American style,” according to its website at docks.beer. In recent years, the brewery has undergone plenty of expansion—in 2018, the Brewers Association named them the fifth fastest-growing small and independent craft brewery in the country. Last year, Royal Docks added a new brewhouse and cannery and plans to open a second taphouse as part of the downtown Akron Bowery redevelopment project.
Paradigm Shift is a 10-barrel production brewery that has established itself as a popular casual hangout in a residential neighborhood. The name Paradigm Shift came from Malinowski’s previous career—before a corporate takeover eliminated his job—where he was responsible for getting people to look at things differently and think outside the box, to make a “paradigm shift.”
Estremera named his company after a freshwater fish known for its intelligence and survival instinct. The brewery’s exterior is distinguished by a four-story mural of football legend Jim Thrope, part of the District’s “The Eleven” art project.
Maize Valley features a winery, craft brewery, full kitchen, farmers’ market and a Family Fun Zone. Maize Valley makes its own wines, using local products. The brewery conducts monthly tours of its winery and brewery. With seating for 300 guests, Maize Valley also hosts special events, including wine tastings, live entertainments, car shows and charity fundraisers.
Canton Brewing Company is Stark County’s first craft brewery. The downtown mainstay also boasts a speakeasy and a restaurant, called Snorky’s on Third. The brewery has three core beers and dozens of seasonal beers, everything from imperial stouts to kettle sour tart ale.
Minerva’s Sandy Springs Brewing Co. and the nearby Brewers Quarters go together in a manner that is more than just beer and beds. Tasting the craft beer created by Andy Conrad at the brewery he and his wife, Amanda, operate in Minerva, is pleasurable to the palate.
