Canton is home to one of the largest makers markets in this part of Northeast Ohio. The Downtown Canton Flea began in 2015 as a downtown garage sale of sorts. It has evolved to become a collection of about 75 vendors who run vintage shops, sell antiques, make handmade products and operate food trucks.
For two weeks this summer, hundreds of thousands of people will celebrate some of the greatest players in the history of football. The annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival begins July 22 and runs through August 6, with 17 major events scheduled throughout Stark County.
The Massillon Museum once again is hosting its annual island party as a thank you to city residents. This year’s event is scheduled for 6 to 11 p.m. July 20 outside the museum and will feature a pig roast and entertainment from the Jackson High School Steel Drum Band and reggae group Carlos Jones and the P.L.U.S. Band.
The 27th annual Comedy, Magic and Illusion Show is coming to Canton this month. A magicians’ convention and battle will run here May 3 through 5, and the related Comedy, Magic and Illusion Show will be held at the Canton Palace Theatre on May 5 and May 6.
A panoramic painting of African wildlife is coming to Canton. “African Menagerie—The Inquisition” will run April 26 through July 15 at the Canton Museum of Art. The touring exhibit created by American artist Brian Jarvi is considered art with a mission, because it is intended to draw attention to wildlife extinction.
“Frank Lloyd Wright: Architecture of the Interior,” an exhibit that showcases the insides of Wright’s houses, will be on display at the Wm. McKinley Presidential Library & Museum from March 2 through April 29.
Lisa Teeple is still a little astonished by her success. Teeple is the 2017 Canton Arts District All-Star winner. Her acrylic painting “Sublimation of Neptune” earned the most votes at the Canton Museum of Art event in November.
For more than 30 years, the Players Guild Theatre has crafted a holiday tradition. “A Christmas Carol” will return to the stage December 1-17. The Players Guild has mounted a production of the Charles Dickens tale for about 36 years. And for the last 10 years or so, the theater has performed an original musical production of the show.
