Pittsburgh is a roughly two-hour, 100-mile journey from Stark County. The city—which sits at the intersection of the Ohio, Allegheny and Monongahela rivers and boasts more than 440 bridges—is well worth the drive.
I’m not much of a cook, or a baker, for that matter. It’s not that I’m bad at it; I’m just lazy. But at the beginning of the year, I decided it was time to man up and learn how to make some new dishes. In 1805, a group of Amish settlers in Pennsylvania began the move west to Ohio, resulting in one of the nation’s largest concentrations of their community. Today, Northeast Ohio is home to 60,000 Amish in roughly 52 communities. Amish life is a big draw for non-Amish tourists, who are curious and fascinated with their 19th century way of life.
