Retired NFL defensive end Kenny Peterson enjoyed overnight success when he opened a Nothing Bundt Cakes in his hometown a year ago. “It was shocking. It makes me feel good the amount of support that the city has given us,” Peterson said about the instant popularity of his bakery at 4468 Belden Village Street NW in Jackson Township, which is a franchise of a Texas-based company and employs 20 people.

Laura Weisgarber gives her local picks

By her own description, 2015 was a “rough year” for Laura Weisgarber. Highlighted two years ago in The Canton Repository’s “Brave & Beautiful” section, the Jackson Township resident saw her job move out of town just days before she lost her mother to Alzheimer’s disease. A few weeks later, she was diagnosed with breast cancer—for the second time in the years since her battle against Hodgkins disease when she was a freshman at Ohio State University.

Wedding spotlight: Alisa and Peter Wassenaar

Alisa Wenger and Peter Wassenaar met at a Bible study nearly nine years ago while they were students at The Ohio State University, but they didn’t start dating until January 2010. They were married Sept. 5, 2012, at a civil wedding in Enschede, the Netherlands, and in a church wedding in Denekamp, The Netherlands (church weddings do not have any legal power there, which is the reason for two ceremonies).
