It was all business in the very beginning for Haley Rice and John Becker. In the spring of 2014, Haley had just come back to Canton after attending graduate school in Oxford, Ohio. While she was actively job searching, John messaged her on LinkedIn about a potential job opening. They met for lunch to discuss business, and before the day was over, John asked Haley out for drinks that night. A few days later, he asked her out to dinner. By then, Haley knew this was no longer about business.
Past and present members of The Junior League of Stark County gathered in June at Brookside Country Club to celebrate the organization’s 80th Anniversary, where longtime community volunteers Phyllis Milligan and Tiny (Julia) Belden were recognized for their service.
The Stark County District Library Foundation Smart Party event: Beatles & Books was held at Brookside Country Club, featuring The Beatles cover band Hard Day’s Night. Mary Calnon and Darlene Violet were the co-chairs for this event.
In May, the Walsh University Women’s Committee hosted its annual Kentucky Derby fundraiser at Brookside Country Club. Marking one of the largest turnouts in event history, more than 130 guests donned their best Derby attire and enjoyed a three-course dinner and Southern-style mint juleps while Troy and Kyle Grove, alongside Steve Paidas, provided lively tunes and trackside commentary during the 141st running of the Kentucky Derby.
It wasn’t even 30 years ago when passers-by could see the large copper roof from Perry Drive NW. The enormous house, across from Brookside Country Club, is hidden by the trees now. The 15,000-square-foot home may be Stark County’s most expensive, and exclusive, home.
