Having fun and help the community at the same time? That is exactly what Tie 1 On is all about. Only a year old, “Tie 1 On — Scarf 1 Up” is a special fundraising endeavor which promotes the arts in Stark County and provides an opportunity for artists to positively impact social services.

nonprofit1An artist design competition culminates in a retail offering of neckties and scarves derived from winning entries. It gives local artists a chance to win a cash prize and contribute to a Community Services of Stark County program. This year, the beneficiary will be the agency’s adoption program.

“We are working with Arts in Stark,” said David Peppard, Community Services board chairman. “Last year, we raised $5,000. It was used for our Family Living Center. The adoption program lost some funding this year due to cutbacks, so we are hoping this year’s fundraiser will make up our loss.”

With money raised during the local event, two $1,000 awards will be given to artists and five $100 awards will be given to honorable mention recipients.

nonprofit2Tie 1 On, Scarf 1 Up is a branch of Community Services of Stark County, which offers an array of programs and services to meet the needs of the people of the greater Stark County community.

This year’s Tie 1 On, Scarf 1 Up gala will be June 25 at the Joseph Saxton Gallery. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The event begins at 7 p.m. It is catered by Bender’s Restaurant. Tickets are $60 per person or $120 per couple.
