The initiative began with a group of 12 women who were concerned about the increasing poverty status of women and children in Stark County. The group researched ways to establish a charitable resource to enable women and children to reach their full potential.
Established in 2006, The Women’s Fund now has an endowment of more than $205,000 and more than 100 members. The fund has awarded 20 grants totaling $25,850 to a variety of Stark County nonprofit organizations that provide programs and services for women and children.
“The ability of The Women’s Fund to have a lasting impact on the clients of the nonprofits in our community is of motivational importance for the Advisors Committee members, as they encourage co-workers, acquaintances, friends and family members to join in their efforts to make a difference,” said Natalie Weinsz, chairwoman of The Women’s Fund.
“Though the monies granted to date have not been large grant awards to each of the nonprofits, their clients have reported that skill sets have been strengthened, practical information has been gleaned, and life lessons have been enhanced.”
Anyone interested in joining The Women’s Fund can do so by going to www.starkcf.org or contacting the Stark Community Foundation at 330-454-3426 to receive informational brochures and contact information for a member of the Advisors Committee.
