Shared Blessings | Nonprofit Spotlight

Life lessons, responsibility and sportsmanship are only a few of the things that youngsters walk away with from a lacrosse field when they play for Lacrosse On 3, a nonprofit organization that enables underprivileged youth in Stark County to play the game.

Whether providing blankets to the homeless or food to the hungry, Shared Blessings has been active in the community for the past 10 years to help others when they could use a hand.

“We are a nonprofit organization that exists to help those in need,” said Darlene Violet, president of the Shared Blessings board.

“Being involved in this organization for the past 10 years has taught me how important it is to get involved in the community. There are so many needs which can be helped by sharing our blessings. Our motto is ‘Count your blessings, then share them.’ ”

Among the organizations this group has helped are Pathway Caring for Children, Samaritan’s Table, Quest Deliverance House, area schools, the Stark County Exceptional Olympics, J.R. Coleman Child Care Center, Refuge of Hope and the Rape Crisis Program.

“Our mission is to share our blessings with those in need living in our community,” said Violet. “We raise monetary funds and collect needed items for area schools, social service agencies, private endeavors designed to help others, and projects designed to help individuals lead better, more satisfying and productive lives.”

Shared Blessings conducts five meetings a year and highlights a different organization each meeting. A speaker from the organization attends the meeting so members can learn about the group or agency that they are helping.

Each member donates at least $35 at each meeting and brings items from the wish list of the organization in need.

“We are always looking for new members who are interested in ways to help the community,” Violet said.
