Why do you do what you do?
My wife Laura and I have four children — Rachel, Sarah, Anna and Faith. Concern about my children led me to membership on the Canton City Schools Board of Education for the past 10 years. The focus of my time on the board has been increasing student achievement. I treasure the opportunity to positively influence many children through my service on the board.
My vocation is as a lawyer. I enjoy greatly the intellectual challenge of solving the legal problems of my clients. The relationships I have built with clients, partners, judges and colleagues of the bar are invaluable. I enjoy the competition involved in being a trial lawyer. Preparing, presenting and winning complex jury cases is extremely rewarding.
What is on your bucket list?
I want to go back to Jerusalem. To walk the streets of Jerusalem is to be in the midst of history and faith. It is a deeply moving place, as is all of Israel.
Like every parent, I would like to see my children flourish as they become adults.
What is on your mind?
I worry that our baby boomer generation is squandering that which has been bequeathed to us by our parents. Have we selfishly spent that which we have been given? Are we losing the essence of that which characterized our parents — thrift, hard work and dedication to community and family? And, are we passing on to our children the character and qualities needed for following generations of Americans to succeed? I have been blessed to live in America, in a time of incredible freedom and prosperity. Will my children be as fortunate? Most importantly, I fear my four children will never know that it is possible for the Cleveland Browns to qualify for the playoffs!
