At this time of year, you will find plenty of Christmas decorations here. Hand-painted ornaments, collectible Santas and angels, and a huge assortment of gift ideas can be found. This gift shop is great for the local-history buff and local-art collector in your life. Museum exhibit books and other art books are available. It offers a large selection of local-history books and prints of old photos from its collections plus printed greeting cards. Stocking stuffers include stuffed animals, jewelry, T-shirts and key chains.

Items here fit the mission of the museum — to teach history, science and industry, nature and astronomy. This may be the perfect place to stuff your child’s stocking with everything related to dinosaurs, snakes, turtles and frogs. Kids who love science experiments will love the museum’s science kits, such as the popular snow-making one. Exclusive to the shop are their handmade rugs, made by volunteers on an antique loom.

The new Museum Store has a range of contemporary artful objects for the home and lifestyle. Find a variety of handmade objects, some from local artists, such as Susan Scaparotti’s red lariat necklaces, and some from as far away as Africa, such as the telephone wire baskets created by Zulu artists. Children likely will be drawn to the selection of unique art supplies and art toys. Also available are museum T-shirts, Sandy Chilewich’s signature textile, woven vinyl bags and zips, and Acme Studio business accessories. Shoppers do not need to pay admission to shop at the museum gift shop.

Sure, Browns and Steelers items are everywhere in the mall, but what do you do for the Saints fan in your life? The Hall of Fame gift shop features items from every team in the league, along with exclusive autographed footballs, helmets and other items, by both Hall of Famers and current NFL stars. The National First Ladies’ Library Gift Shop offers a large selection of unique, practical and collectible items. Unique First Ladies’ Christmas Ornaments began in 1999 featuring Ida Saxton McKinley, and then a different first lady each year. The ornament for 2008 will feature Hillary Clinton. Flowers of the First Ladies China features the flower associated with each first lady. In 2006, the gift shop began a collectible holiday plate series. Past china patterns featured a poinsettia and a nutcracker. A Victorian winter scene was chosen for 2008.
