Residence: Canton

Occupation: Production manager at Technibus Inc.

How long have you been running? I’ve been running since junior high and never stopped. I was inspired by Dave Wottle and Bill Rodgers. Both are my running idols.

Have you ever completed a marathon before? 16 marathons to date.

Do you have a pre-race and/or post-race routine? My pre-race routine is getting up early, eat a light breakfast and drink Accelerade from GNC. I then go into my zone the hour before and focus. When I’m done, I relax.

Do you listen to music while you run? I never listen to music on my runs. This is my time to think about what to do around the house, stuff I can do better at work, etc.The ideas come flowing in the farther I run.

What made you sign up for the Canton Marathon? Canton is my hometown and this should’ve happened long ago. There was never a doubt I would run this marathon. I designed the marathon and half-marathon courses. I just qualified for the 2013 Boston Marathon at the age of 53, this past fall in Columbus. I ran a 3:29:57 in Columbus and made the new harder standard with 3 seconds to spare. Good thing I had enough left in the tank to sprint the last quarter-mile.What a great feeling that was when I hit the tape. I tried my whole life to Boston-qualify and finally succeeded.

Are you following a specific running program? I use Training-Peaks from www.runnersworld.com. This is the best program I’ve ever used and gave me my long-life dream of qualifying for Boston. I also found the best running club ever — the Jackson Running Club is the best!

Where’s your favorite place to run in Stark County? My favorite is my HOF hill course: 4, 6 or 8 mile routes. My second favorite is the Towpath from Ernie’s Bike Shop in Massillon north toward Canal Fulton.

What is your motivation? It keeps me healthy, energized & feeling great!

What kind of shoes do you wear? Brooks or Asics do just fine and cushion my feet.
