Canton Marathon | Anne Kaminski

More than 6,000 registered participants are expected for the inaugural Canton Marathon on June 17. More than 500 already have signed up to run all 26.2 miles. We asked 26 of those runners to tell us about themselves— and why they chose to run the marathon in Canton. Be prepared to be inspired.

How long have you been running? I started running 15 years ago for exercise and to run with my siblings in a 7-mile race on Cape Cod. We ran it in memory of our dad, who had started running for exercise when I was in high school — long before running was popular.

Have you ever completed a marathon before? This will be my first marathon. I always said I would NEVER run a marathon, but since this is practically in my own back yard (the course goes right past my street), I decided to do it.

What’s the farthest distance you’ve ever run? I have run nine half marathons (13.1 miles) and will run one more before the marathon.

Are you following a specific running program? I am training using the Jeff Galloway run/walk method — run three minutes, walk one minute. I also do my long runs by time rather than distance, adding 15 minutes each week.

What is your motivation? My motivation is my family, several of whom are running the marathon (two daughters and two sons-in-law). I hope to see my two beautiful granddaughters, Margaret and Lila, somewhere along the course. And my husband, my greatest source of encouragement, will be waiting for me at the finish line. Also, when I run, I can eat whatever I want!

What kind of shoes do you wear? I love my Nike Vomero shoes!
