Maureen Kampman and Jason Tate met in Jackson, Miss., in 2007, where they were introduced by a mutual friend. At the time, Maureen was dating someone else, but Jason continued to pursue her for more than six months until she was single and agreed to go out with him. The rest, as they say, is history. They dated for about a year before Maureen moved to Canton, where they continued to date long-distance for another year before Jason popped the question. Maureen was down for a visit and Jason had planned a special sushi picnic lunch at the couple’s favorite picnic spot at the reservoir. But it was more than 100 degrees that day and Maureen — not knowing what was planned — decided it was too hot to be outdoors. Jason scrambled to change plans for lunch — but eventually did convince Maureen to take a short walk with him at the reservoir over dessert, where he proposed while dodging raindrops. Afterward, Jason surprised Maureen again when they stopped by a restaurant for a celebratory drink and found their friends waiting to celebrate with them. The couple was married on Nov. 26, 2011, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Canton, with a reception following at The Metropolitan Centre in Canton.
