Everything came together perfectly for Melissa’s & David’s big day
Melissa Bloom-Doerschuk and David Doerschuk initially met on Facebook. His sister recommended he add Melissa as a friend. After several attempts, she finally responded.
Melissa knew what she was looking for, and David had it. Within five months, the two were engaged, and a year and a half later, they were married.
Within a short amount of time, Melissa knew he was right for her.
“We were raised the same, and our families were so much alike,” Melissa said. “He was such a good guy.”
When the couple went to Little Italy together, David said, “I know why God had you waiting so long for me because Jesus was maturing me for you.”
Melissa looked into his eyes and immediately knew she had found the one.
For her birthday, they decided to take a trip to Niagara Falls. Melissa asked David to go zip-lining, and he said no.
“He was apprehensive to leave the ring in the hotel room, so he kept it on him. That would explain why he didn’t want to go zip lining with me,” Melissa said.
That night, they went to The Keg, a restaurant at the top of Embassy Suites, which has a wall of windows overlooking the falls and lights up at night. They made reservations to sit by the windows. They watched the falls change colors with the lights, and when it turned red, Melissa said, “Oooh, red stands for love!”
At that time, David said, “It’s time.”
Out of the corner of her eye, Melissa noticed him kneel on one knee. She exclaimed, “Yes!” before he could finish his speech. In his hand, he had her dream engagement ring.
From there, things just started coming together. Melissa went wedding dress shopping at some upscale bridal shops. She didn’t find what she was looking for, so with one of her bridesmaids and childhood friend in tow, she made her way to Encore Resale Fashions in Canton. She found her dream dress for $400, well under her $2,000 dress budget. As soon as she put it on, she knew it was the one. She even cried.
“When I put the dress on for the first time, I started to cry, and she (my bridesmaid) said, ‘You look immaculate, you have to get it.’ I knew it was the one.”
Later while scrolling on Pinterest, Melissa found the same dress and finally found out who the designer was. The dress was an Allure Gatore with Swarovski crystals, retailing at $2,400. As she likes to say, she felt like she won the dress lottery.
She hired the seamstress from Encore to alter her dress, as well.
“The seamstress did an amazing job,” Melissa said. “She made the dress absolutely perfect.”
Then it was time to choose a venue. Brookside Farms was the couple’s first choice, and by sheer luck, there was a last-minute cancellation for their date, October 27, 2018. It was meant to be.
Fast-forward to their wedding day. It was rainy, but they barely noticed. They were having too good of a time.
Because Melissa works at Lotus Spa & Salon, her employees styled her hair and her bridesmaids’ hair. She loved the results.
While she and her husband-to-be were busy getting ready with the bridal party, their friends and family showed up to help set up. Melissa and David were grateful for all the help they received on their big day.
Melissa said the whole day was amazing, but one thing stood out.
“The most magical part of the wedding day was the wedding dance,” she said. “We only needed two dance lessons because my husband caught on so quickly. We managed to pull off the most magical, mesmerizing wedding dance. Everyone kept asking us how long it took us to practice the dance choreography, when we just moved to the music.”
When asked what she’s looking forward to most in their marriage, Melissa said, “The love and companionship and building a life together. Seeing what we are going to accomplish and know that person is always going be by your side.”
Her advice to other couples: “Have mutual respect for one another. Slow to anger, quick to forgive.”
The couple would like to thank their vendors for a beautiful day: Lotus Spa & Salon, Samantha Lynne Solan Photography, Encore Resale Fashions, Doerschuk Sound Company, JSTEW Productions (John Stewart).
