Winner: Beer selection at Thatsa Wrapp
Honorable mention: Beer selection at Winking Lizard
Thatsa Wrapp is a beer snob’s paradise. The eatery, tucked into downtown Canton’s Arts District, boasts a selection of ales, porters, stouts and saisons that would put most bars to shame. The restaurant has a rotating menu of eight drafts—it tries to rotate in two new handles each week and offer at least two handles from Ohio breweries—and 60 to 70 different bottles, said owner Jeff Wagner.
The constantly changing selection—new brews are introduced weekly—is curated by Wagner and manager Ashley Sponaugle.
“We’re beer lovers. That’s our biggest thing,” he said.
Wagner made a conscious decision to forgo wine and hard liquor in favor of a beer selection that will please anyone’s palate. For wine lovers, he suggests sweeter, fruit-based beers, while barrel-aged brews are perfect for those who prefer whiskey, bourbon or rum.
They try not to keep the same selection for too long, and the booming nanobrew industry gives Wagner and co. plenty of opportunities to introduce something new.
“It’s fun,” he said.
Drinking aside, Thatsa Wrapp’s menu gives even the designated driver something to cheer about. The restaurant offers decadent salads and wraps—including almost-daily specials—delicious soups and sides (do not pass up the homemade chips and dip), and mouthwatering desserts.
