Winner: Chocolate Stampede at Longhorn Steakhouse
Honorable mention: Make your own hot fudge waffle sundae at Milk and Honey
If heaven can be defined by what we eat, then I have seen the light and it is to die for.
The Chocolate Stampede cake at Longhorn Steakhouse is not for the weak of heart or those on a diet. It has more than 2,000 calories per serving. However, the six different types of chocolate, vanilla bean ice cream and freshly whipped cream are worth every sinful bite.
While the Longhorn chain is tight-lipped about the recipe for this decadent dessert, there are a few copycat recipes available online, including one from the Food Network—“Almost-Famous” chocolate mousse cake—that could come close. That proof would be in the baking.
What I can tell you, though, is that there are a couple of different thick layers of chocolate mousse over a thin layer of dark-chocolate cake, topped with a chocolate shell.
Don’t try to eat the whole dessert yourself. Take a friend or two to help. When served, there are two large servings of the cake on the plate, with two scoops of ice cream and plenty of whipped cream. The plate, and the dessert, are drizzled with a chocolate sauce.
