WITH A TWIST

Michael Cudnik’s Root Beer Float took top honors in the 2012 Signature Drink Competition. His winning recipe:

  • 2 parts whipped cream-flavored vodka
  • 1 part vanilla rum
  • Alcohol-infused whipped cream
  • 4 parts root beer
  • 1/3 glass ice cubes

Add ice to glass. Add vodka and rum portions. Add root beer to just under top of glass. Top with layer of whipped cream. Stir vigorously to mix whipped cream into drink and make creamy. Top off with more root beer if needed.

RUN CANTON, RUN

12_marathonThe community was buzzing about the Canton Marathon for many months prior to the June 2012 inaugural event. The event seemed to single-handedly turn Stark County into a die-hard running community.

In our April 2012 issue, we found 26 local runners who planned to tackle the full marathon and asked them to tell us why they ran, their motivation — even their favorite shoes. The race went off seemingly without a hitch, but has since stalled with big money issues and feuding partners.

The chance of a 2013 race is bleak, but we hope the issues are resolved and a marathon can return again in the future. Until then — run Canton, run!

STEALING THE SHOW

Meredith Carter won our Cover Model contest in 2012. And boy, did she have a story to tell. The recent college graduate told her story of how she struggled with self-image and eating disorders. Meredith has now dedicated her life to helping other young girls through her foundation, Stealing Hollywood. “We want to give girls hope, unveiling the lies Hollywood gives us.”

The August 2012 issue focused on kids — and we had the tough task of picking just eight amazing kids to feature.

From talent standouts to overcoming health issues, these kids are tops. Spotlighted in that issue were: Danica Snyder (pictured), Caleb House, Natalie James, Sydney Maddox, Jared McCully, Andrew Burton, Malia Marinos and Keegan O’Reilly. Look for more amazing kids coming in the August 2013 issue.
