Twigs & Twine
5562 Fulton Dr. NW, Jackson Twp. | 330-499-3350 | papertwigs.com

The bouquets include oranges and limes. Boutonnieres are furnished with branches and jewels.

This Jackson Township shop bills itself as the in-demand floral design studio in the area and calls the work floral artistry. Arrangements for weddings, showers and birthdays include colorful roses, lace, turnips and even Solo Cups and pingpong balls—depending on the occasion, of course.

It’s connected to Paper Allure, a company that specializes in handmade invitations, which expanded in 2011 to add Twigs and Twine.

The owners post pictures of arrangements, such as fresh flowers in a milk bottle tied with twine, on social media when they’ve got stock available for purchase. The shop also offers nonfloral arrangements for dads and boyfriends—filled with greens and twigs.

Gus at Plaza Barber Shop
3046 Cromer Ave. NW, Canton | 330-492-9811

Constantine “Gus” Caripides is an institution. His barber chair is so busy at Plaza Barber Shop that a new patron erroneously might assume he is the owner. That title instead goes to Larry Capaldi. But, Gus certainly has put his time in at the longtime ear-lowering establishment. Capaldi, who himself had worked at the shop since it opened early in the 1950s, hired Gus to fill an empty chair next to him when he bought the place in 1959. If you do the math, counting his previous work at other barbershops, Gus has been in the hair-cutting business for better than six decades. Blessed, as he says, with straight arms and strong legs, Gus—now in his 80s—once joked about his lengthy tenure keeping his customers’ hair looking good. “I’m just picking up speed.”

Sack’s Thrift Avenue
543 N Main St., North Canton | 330-936-1807 | facebook.com/SacksThriftAveCanton

Sack’s Thrift Avenue is not your Aunt Tilly’s thrift store. Given the selection and quality of merchandise, it hardly seems fair to call it a “thrift store.” The resale shop opened in the spring of 2013. It’s an outlet of a California-based company that specializes in new and used home furnishings. For sale are pictures, mirrors, dressers, chairs, tables, sofas, lamps, rugs, pillows and numerous other home decor items. The inventory changes almost daily but the store’s quality and selection of items are perfect for every taste and budget.

Sir Troy’s Toy Kingdom
1180 S Main St., North Canton | 330-244-9008 | sirtroys.com

There aren’t many people who walk through Troy Cefaratti’s store with a long face, particularly if they’re kids. He is the owner of Sir Troy’s Toy Kingdom, the largest specialty toy store in Stark County. The signature line at Sir Troy’s is his collection of Lego sets. There is a large miniature Lego city, complete with a working train layout, that snakes its way through the store.
Legos have been Troy and brother Kenneth’s hobby since they were kids.

“It kind of grew out of that,” Troy said. “It wasn’t our plan to open a toy store, but that’s where it led.”

Sir Troy’s Toy Kingdom has been in business since 2007, and since 2012 at the North Canton location. The 7,000-square-foot store carries plenty of the most popular brands, including Playmobil, Breyer model horses and Schleich animal figurines.

“The hardest thing kids have to do in here is they decide,” Troy said. “There’s so much good stuff, they can’t handle it all, and they have a hard time deciding.”

Arrowhead Vintage & Handmade Goods
340 Fourth St. NW, Canton | 817-805-1097 | facebook.com/arrowheadcanton

Arrowhead sports a distinctly unique vibe.

The shop’s constantly changing inventory includes vintage clothing, vinyl records, paperback books, house decor, enamel pins, patches, VHS tapes, board games, glassware and other assorted novelties.
Arrowhead also sells new merchandise including beard oil, hair wax, scarves, crocheted hats and jewelry made from bones.

“I like to think we’re kind of an antique store for younger people,” said shop co-owner Dave Sherrill.
