For those for whom a burger is “just a burger,” George’s Lounge in downtown Canton ups the ante—a perfectly crafted “Geormet Burger,” cooked to order, with no skimping on the imagination—served from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. That earns it a place in my heart, and our Late Night Bites Feast Award.
The hallmark of any good downtown center city is joints that are handcrafting good cocktails and great food into the wee hours. George’s Lounge—a downtown fixture for more than 50 years—delivers that and more, whether you pop in on your lunch break or head there late after First Friday festivities. With sandwiches, served-all-day breakfasts, hand-scooped milkshakes, a dessert menu that includes the “Big Bad Leroy Brownie,” and one of downtown’s biggest beer lists, there’s something here for every craving, regardless of the hour.
Every 30 days, a new Burger of the Month arrives to tempt the more adventurous diner. For the less wistful, I recommend my favorite, the Big O’nesto: 1/3 pound of quality beef, crispy bacon, lettuce, melted American and a delightfully gooey fried egg, artfully stacked between toasted pretzel buns. The burgers are served with hand-cut fries (of the potato or sweet potato variety), and you can fancify them with toppings galore. Ask for a side of George’s homemade spicy maple mayo, and you’ve got a burger set to satisfy night owls and early birds alike.
