Launched 25 years ago by Jon and Melynda Zepp, Zepp’s Pizza of North Canton has plenty to set it apart in a wide field of pizza contenders.
Zepp’s offers Sicilian-style deep-dish pizza, with a nice thick crust onto which the cheese is layered directly, followed by toppings then sauce. These pizzas have an appealingly crisp edge, with the oil from the cheese soaking directly into the crust.
The stuffed-crust pizza at Zepp’s has regular crust below and then a thinner crust across the top, which is painted with garlic butter then sprinkled with grated Parmesan and oregano before going into the oven.
Strombolis are made to order at Zepp’s, so the choice of fillings is variable, and these also have garlic butter, Parmesan and oregano painted on the dough before baking.
Of interest to many will be Zepp’s Keto pizza, which has low-carb crust made from almond flour, sour cream, shredded cheese, eggs and spices and is flavorful and filling.
Off the pizza topic, Zepp’s ultra-popular wings are above-average in size, with the drumettes almost as large as standard chicken legs.
Typically, wings are deep-fried then sauced, but at Zepp’s, they are breaded then pressure-fried, or broasted. Sides are served on the side to keep the wings crispy. Sauces are made in-house, and the custom hot sauce and garlic Parmesan are recommended.
Zepp’s, which has found an expanded customer base during COVID-19, is at 1108 S Main Street.
