Downtown Canton has come alive with community events over the last several years. These are among the events sparked by the Canton Development Partnership:

This ever-growing and popular event is a monthly party in the downtown Canton Arts District. Each month has a theme and includes music, performances and visual arts events for both adults and children. The evening starts with a First Stop at the Canton Museum of Art at 5:30, followed by the full event downtown from 6 to 10 p.m. It’s held, as the name suggests, on the First Friday of every month — rain or shine. The event is presented by ArtsinStark, the County Arts Council and the Downtown Canton Special Improvement District.

This producers-only market is in its 10th year downtown, offering fresh products from local growers, including produce, baked goods, flowers, honey, cheese, eggs, meat, art and more. The market is held at the Timken High School administrative building parking lot on the corner of Fourth Street NW and McKinley Avenue NW and is open from 8-11:30 a.m. each Saturday from late June through mid-October.

Held under the Fourth Street twinkle lights, this free concert series is presented by the Canton Development Partnership with help from many local sponsors. Each show features different bands and runs from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Fridays throughout the summer. The 2013 series featured Ryan Humbert, Hey Monea! and Hard Day’s Night.

This free summer festival draws a huge crowd downtown each year. Many acts grace the stage throughout the two-day event, including a couple of known headliners. The Canton Blues Festival has run for a dozen years downtown and continues to grow. Attendees can bring chairs and blankets for lawn seating and picnicking. Vendors also offer food and beverages.VIP seating is also available.

This family-friendly event is filled with holiday excitement — with attractions, entertainment, refreshments and more. Held in the center of downtown, community performers, musical acts and Santa Claus all take the stage to spread holiday cheer. The city’s tree and holiday lights are turned on for the first time of the season and fireworks top off the evening.

A sophisticated downtown event, Vintage Canton boasts live music, arts exhibits and, of course, wine. Canton eateries also offer food tastings. The relaxed community event is held in late September in Central Plaza.

Market Square comes alive when the massive Taste of Canton tent gets erected there for this downtown foodie festival each May. Local restaurateurs offer samplings of their best bites for sale, and beer, wine, art and a children’s area are available in addition to live entertainment. The event expanded to two days a few years ago.
