United Way of Greater Stark County honored caring community volunteers and workplaces in front of a full house during its Annual Meeting Breakfast and Campaign Awards celebration at Kent State at Stark’s University Center in April.

Longtime volunteers Patricia Gramoy and Jim Griffith each received the prestigious United Way Gold Key service award for their incredible commitment to the health and welfare of people in our community. Young professional Staci Martin was honored with the United Way 2014 DeHoff Emerging Philanthropist of Stark County service award. And 33 Stark County workplaces were recognized for their extraordinary support of the 2013 annual fundraising campaign. 

Keynote speaker Kay Port, director of Stark County’s CARE Team Initiative, presented challenges faced by at-risk students in Stark County and how the innovative CARE Team helps children and families overcome obstacles for academic success.
