FAVORITE HOME REMODELER: DOERSCHUK’S BATH AND KITCHEN SHOWPLACE
Dan Doerschuk has a hunch on why Doerschuk’s Bath and Kitchen Showplace topped the list for Favorite Home Remodeler.
“I have been here 23 years, maybe that counts for something,” said Doerschuk, owner. “We will work on any project, big or small. From measuring to installing we are committed to doing the job right.”
As their name suggests, Doerschuk’s specializes in kitchens and bathrooms, but also designs for the elderly and disabled. Doerschuk said a lot of his customers comment on the fact that their remodelers cause such a minimal impact on the rest of the customers’ home.
“We are clean and punctual. We try to do what we say and we do it well.”
Doerschuk’s also has a large showroom to help customers with the design and planning process.

FAVORITE INTERIOR/EXTERIOR PAINTER: GORSKI PAINTING
It took a minute for Bob Gorski to digest the news that his Gorski Painting won the category of Favorite Interior/Exterior Painter.
“This is pretty amazing,” said the owner. “I am humbled by it all. I guess I was chosen because I am as particular about my work as anybody. I am my own worst critic with it comes to setting a benchmark.”
A family owned business, Gorski specializes in residential and commercial paint, both interior and exterior, as well as power-washing, wallpapering and faux painting.
“With more than 30 years of painting experience, we have perfected our process,” Gorski said.“Our work is second to none, whether I am painting a rental or a house on Hills and Dales. I deliver the very best.”

FAVORITE PLACE TO BUY A LOAF OF BREAD: PANERA BREAD
While popular for its soup, salad and sandwich lunches, Panera Bread is named after its loaves. And for bread fans, the place is a paradise. It’s the perfect place to stop in for a fresh loaf to take home and enjoy.
Among the most popular varieties at the local Paneras are tomato-basil, sourdough, three-cheese ciabatta and asiago foccaccia. They also have French and whole-grain baguettes. Bins are filled with bagels, the most popular flavors being cinnamon crunch and asiago cheese.
Bread and bagels are baked fresh daily; anything unsold is donated to charity each day.

FAVORITE PLACE TO BUY PLANTS/FLOWERS AND FAVORITE LAWN-CARE SERVICE: RICE’S NURSERY
Rice’s Nursery was the far-away winner in both categories of lawn-care service and place to buy plants/flowers. That seems to fall right in line with the nursery’s vision “enhance and increase the value of our customers’ surroundings through uncommon innovation, quality and attention to relationships.”
Rice’s Nursery also won the 2011 About magazine Local Favorite award for best landscaper.
“Honestly, I think it is because of the wonderful folks we have working for us,” said Bryan Rice, president. “I’d like to think we have good quality plants here, but it is the people. They make the difference.”
J.D. Rice started the small lawn and landscape business in 1941. Now with 72 years of business, Rice’s has become a full-service, 28-acre garden center and 100-plus acre tree farm.
The nursery serves residential and commercial customers with specialties in landscape architecture, design/build and maintenance, irrigation, low-voltage lighting, lawn fertilization and a garden center.
