Who is your Person of the Year? | Contributor Q&A

My personal Person of the Year is my boyfriend, Joel! He was my biggest surprise of 2018 and a reminder that even the hardest things that happen can lead to wonderful things.

Alison Matas
Boyfriend …
My personal Person of the Year is my boyfriend, Joel! He was my biggest surprise of 2018 and a reminder that even the hardest things that happen can lead to wonderful things. I knew we were a good fit when, after our first date, we were talking on the phone and he asked me what my five-year plan was and whether or not I’d ever taken the DiSC personality assessment. (Obviously I had, and obviously, I am a dominant personality type. So is he, so please say a prayer for us.) Life has been extra happy ever since.

Gary Brown
President of the Patriot Project …
My personal choice for Person of the Year, this year and many past years, would be Dr. Timothy Novelli, the North Canton chiropractor who founded and continues to serve as president of The Patriot Project.

Stark County has, perhaps, no greater advocate for veterans than Novelli, who has worked tirelessly to obtain chiropractic care for active military and their families, wounded warriors and dependents of men and women who have lost their lives in service to their country. Because of his efforts, more than 250 chiropractors in more than a dozen states now provide care to men and women who suffer from injuries endured while serving in the military or as first responders. Each year, he hosts the black-tie military ball—The Patriot Ball—to raise funds for The Patriot Project.

Through his focused dedication to his cause, Novelli lives out The Patriot Project motto: “The future of chiropractic care in the military begins here.”

Becky Dunn …
What makes someone qualified to be a Person of the Year? Determination, motivation, drive, creativity, passion. At least that’s what my Person of the Year has. Becky Dunn, owner of Rust & Found and Middle and Main Properties, has all that and more. In 2018, I and many others, followed the progress of the home she and her husband flipped in Massillon, as well as countless side projects, including a chic update to the local AW Salon. Every project she attempts turns out stellar in the end. I’m always inspired by her work. It’s great to see someone so passionate about their work.
