Mix a waffle and a doughnut and what do you get? A wonut, also known as my favorite dessert. It’s crazy to think that this deliciously unhealthy dessert didn’t exist a year ago.

Mix a waffle and a doughnut and what do you get? A wonut, also known as my favorite dessert. It’s crazy to think that this deliciously unhealthy treat didn’t exist a year ago.

Last April, some food genius decided to make a hybrid of doughnuts and waffles. The outcome: perfection! I had to try them for myself at the only place selling them. I took a trip to Chicago last May and searched the city for Waffles Cafe. I found the tiny cafe on a street flanked by other little restaurants, and sure enough, there was a case full of wonuts waiting for me.

Since I stopped in on my birthday, it was only fitting that I try the birthday cake flavor. And it did not disappoint. It was the perfect balance of fluffy waffle texture and sweet doughnut glaze.

Needless to say, one visit was not enough. The red velvet and green tea flavors were divine. I still have dreams about those little bites of heaven.

Now I’m drooling!

It won’t be long before that trend will hit our area. Just as tasty, this month’s Feast Award winners will have your mouth watering.

Trust me, you will be hungry when done reading this issue. But food isn’t the only thing on the menu this month.

We highlight the hottest accessories for this season in our Spring Embellished feature on Page 27. Putting together this spread was my favorite part of this issue.

From choosing the pieces to feature to working with the photographer to capture my vision, this fashion spread was a lot of fun.

A lot more goes into a fashion photo shoot than you might think. I selected trendy local boutiques, then had a shopping spree, choosing the chicest accessories for spring.

I narrowed down my vision and explained my complicated ideas to the photographer. Luckily, he was able to decipher my crazy sketches! Now it was time for the fun part: the shoot itself. An hour and a half of pure bliss. I got to style the pieces to show off just how beautiful they are, and I saw my vision come to life.

Unbeknownst to me, the photographer captured a couple behind-the-scenes shots, and I’m glad he did.

Enjoy this food- and fashion-filled issue!
