Last Look: Peaceful retreat

Atwood Lake is where I like to go for some peaceful tranquility — or some quality bonding time. I’ve passed the love of the lake on to my 3-year-old son, Dominic, my mirror image. Dominic grills me on the specifics of each boat that passes.

Atwood Lake is where I like to go for some peaceful tranquility — or some quality bonding time. I’ve passed the love of the lake on to my 3-year-old son, Dominic, my mirror image. Dominic grills me on the specifics of each boat that passes. We stop at his favorite restaurant, the Lighthouse, where he gobbles chicken and french fries. We catch bluegill after bluegill with the fishing rod my grandfather gave me, tossing each fish back into the water after briefly threatening to make it dinner. Dominic knows by name the guys who work at the marina, befriending them as we purchase beverages, fishing lures and gasoline. Our family, including my wife, Amber, and younger son, Zachary, all enjoy going to the lake each Fourth of July to watch the glorious display of fireworks. I’m so grateful for this wonderful resource that allows me to escape the daily pressures of life.
