More than two dozen Stark County houses are valued at more than $1 million by the county auditor. The most expensive is $2.3 million, a lake-house estate with seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms and seven fireplaces.

“This is our paradise,” said Nancy McCauley, referring to their Congress Lake home built in 1927. “It’s kind of a unique place.”
The McCauleys purchased the home in 1986, after it had sat empty for 15 years. They are just the third owners of the home.
Since then, they’ve done major renovations. In 1991, the McCauleys added a 1,900-square-foot ballroom (seen on cover), as well as some other upgrades.
“We just try to keep it original,” Nancy McCauley said. “We wanted to keep it an authentic English Tudor.”
Congress Lake is a private golf and country club located near Hartville.
