Margy Vogt

Why do you do what you do?

Growing up in Massillon, I learned to love the spirit and colorful history of the community from my dad, Bob McFadden, a role model of community activism. I gained an appreciation for art from my mom, Isabel McFadden. Wasn’t I fortunate to land my first “real job” at the Massillon Museum, where all three come together. During decades among the photographs, files and artifacts, I absorbed amazing stories and internalized incredible images.

I enjoy sharing Massillon’s heritage through local histories, programs and tours. I hope my enthusiasm for the town, past and present, is contagious — building community pride and enticing visitors. My first “summer job” was marking maps for outbound tourists; now I prefer attracting visitors, using long-term associations with the Massillon Chamber and the Stark County Convention & Visitors’ Bureau.

It’s exciting to be an active part of Massillon, where it’s possible to instigate positive change. Strong friendships result from collaborating toward common goals — I’ve been blessed with that reward time and again.

What is on your mind?

As much as I cherish time in town, my husband, Joel, and I constantly keep a getaway on the horizon. Anticipating, relaxing, recharging — returning with renewed creativity and energy. My greatest wish for Massillon is that we would channel all of the community’s creativity and energy to move forward together.

What is on your bucket list?

  • Scare myself to death once a year
  • A long Western trip, camera in hand
  • Hang glide at the Outer Banks
  • Paris and Provence
  • Write one more book
