Now that the temps have cooled down, it’s a great time to curl up on the couch with a cup of tea and a good book. Here are some recent reads that I highly recommend.

“The One I Left Behind,” by Jennifer McMahon. After reading the back cover of the book, I wanted more. It’s a little on the dark side, but it’s a real page-turner. It goes back and forth between 1985 and 25 years later. In 1985, a serial killer called Neptune kidnaps women. He severes each woman’s right hand and five days later leaves their bodies around town. The main character, Reggie, discovers that her mother’s hand has been severed, but her mother’s body never shows up. Twenty-five years later, Reggie finds out that her mother is alive and Neptune is back.

“The Dinner,” by Herman Koch. This one took me awhile to get into, but once I did, I had to know what happened. The story takes place while two couples are together at dinner. Secrets start to unravel, and the couples have to make big choices regarding their children. It’s a big thrill, all in the time it takes to have a dinner.

“Why Not Me?” by Mindy Kaling. Looking for a laugh? Mindy Kaling delivers. With stories from her past and how she got where she is today, this book is very relatable. It’s a quick-read but definitely one to come back to when you’re having a rough day/week/month.
