Zippety-do-daaaaa!
By Darla brown

“And you are...” the guide asked, wanting to learn my name before we started our three-hour excursion. In the June issue of About, we told you about the first zip line canopy tour in the Midwest. Nestled into the Hocking Hills forest in southern Ohio, the tour takes adventurers through 10 zip lines and four sky bridges — all while 70 feet above ground. “Terrified,” I replied, as she chuckled and hooked my safety gear to the practice zip. I wasn’t joking. But three hours later as our tour returned — and the guide still thought my name was Terrified — I couldn’t believe I had been so nervous. It was truly a phenomenal and invigorating experience. I can’t wait to go again this fall. I bet the autumn leaves will provide a perfect backdrop for zipping through the forest canopy. This issue, we highlight three other escapes perfect for a fall trip. Turn to Page 54 to read about some destinations that give you a last chance to get away before the snow flies. Reporter Diana Rossetti guides your trips to Toronto, Canada, Landoll’s Castle in Loudonville and The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. Also in this issue, we spotlight 10 of Stark County’s most exclusive homes. Turn to Page 36 to see the spectacular houses, as determined by Stark County auditor’s valuations. While you’re there, you’ll meet David and Nancy McCauley (as seen on our cover). The McCauleys kindly opened their beautiful 1927 Tudor home in Congress Lake for us to tour. From the old Diebold vault and original plaster-work in the basement to the ballroom addition built in the 1990s, the McCauley home melds historic charm with luxurious design. Then check out the Stark County homes for sale now in the more exclusive price ranges. See what your money can get you in this area. From a sprawling ranch built in the ’70s to a newly built lakefront home, it looks like there is a lot to choose from in Stark County.
