I’m usually more content to be on the sidelines and live vicariosly through others.

But after reading Diana Rossetti’s summer hot spots story (Page 52), I think I’ve got the bug. She highlights a new zip line canopy tour in Hocking Hills as a perfect summer attraction for local adventurers.

Hocking Hills is already a favorite getaway spot for my family, so I certainly didn’t need to be persuaded to make the three-hour trip from Stark County.

It’s the vivid description of four sky bridges connected to 10 high wires that zip you from spot to spot — all while 70-some feet above the ground near the Hocking River — that gets me worried.

Yet somehow I feel compelled to try it. In fact, I already told some co-workers I’ll go with them.

Gulp. I could have said I’d go but wait at the bottom. I’m good at saying prayers and giving moral support.

Maybe I’ll stay close to home that day and check out the delightful Stark County boutiques Jennifer Mastroianni details in her story (Page 35). Jennifer introduces us to five boutiques in Stark County and tells us what’s best about each. Yes, boutique shopping sounds way more up my alley than zipping through the forest canopy.

Or I could relax at Bliss Studio with Tiffany Marsh and her adorable son, Luke. Read about Tiffany in our cover story (Page 22), written by Dan Kane. No doubt you’ve already seen Tiffany and Luke in the beautiful image captured for our cover by photographer Julie Botos. Dan’s story takes you through Tiffany’s years in the high-paced New York fashion industry — complete with tidbits about her famous bosses — and her life back at home in Meyers Lake.

If I still need inspiration, I’ll turn to Kelli Young’s story on John McCallister (Page 28), innkeeper at Fieldcrest Inn and Suites. His life teaches that determination can get you where you want to be. Told that he wouldn’t use the left side of his body again after being beaten, John fought back and has made a complete recovery. He brings that determination to his job at Fieldcrest. 

OK, so really, I’m gonna do it. Hocking Hills, here I come. What could be more empowering than doing something you didn’t think you could do? I’m ready.
