The Stark Wood Carvers will host award-winning artists at its third annual “Expressions In Wood” show March 28-29 at the Canton Cultural Center for the Arts.
The club, along with the Canton/Stark County Convention and Visitors’ Bureau and other wood-carving clubs throughout Stark County put together this regional show in 2007 and were overwhelmed by its success.
The public will be treated to demonstrations in woodcarving and examples of carvings that depict wildlife, caricatures, busts, reliefs and more.
Featured works are in a range of sizes, from a tiny, intricately carved feather to life-size figures that look so real it is difficult to tell that they are made from wood.
Spokesperson Don Joliat said the club expects almost 50 exhibitors this year, including last year’s “Best of Show” winner Sandra Czajka of Troy, Ohio. Czajka is an expert at power carving.
Local woodburning artist, Don Worden of Dalton, will be on hand also with his own unique approach to the ancient art form known as pyrography. His subjects often are drawn from nature and include animals and birds.
Joliat said the show will have a well-rounded sampling of woodcarving techniques.
