Margaret Reaves wants to make a difference. Every day when she goes to work as director of Turnaround Community Outreach, she sees where her efforts are needed, but so much still needs to be done.
Turnaround Community Outreach is a nonprofit agency in downtown Canton that offers meals, clothes and advocacy services to the homeless and families in need. It was founded by the Revs. Mike and Barb Cameneti of Faith Family Church. Sarah Fearon is program coordinator.
“Our focal point is to help feed people in need. We deal with the homeless,” said Reaves, who has been director since July 2007. “According to the United Way, we get the true homeless, people who really do not have a place to stay.”
A lunch is offered at 11 a.m. and noon every Tuesday, and groceries, clothes and toiletries are available the first and third Tuesday of each month. Even though these things are provided only on certain days, whenever Turnaround gets a call, Reaves makes a point of being at the Cherry Avenue NE office to give them to someone in need.
A Western Stark Medical Clinic van also is at the facility from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday.
“Everything we get is donated to us from churches, schools, restaurants and other sources,” said Reaves. “In addition, I do a lot of networking with other agencies in the area to ensure our clients get the help they need.”
