We at About love the show “Flea Market Flip,” and we thought it would be fun to do something similar. We reached out to seven local vintage shops and designers who jumped at the chance to be part of our project. We gave each designer $100 to make whatever furniture or home decor piece he or she wanted. The designers were instructed to keep the cost as close to $100 as possible because—here’s a twist—this is a nonprofit project.

These pieces will not be going to a flea market. Instead, these upcycled masterpieces are available here on our website for your bidding pleasure in our first ever Vintage for a Cause auction! And all of the proceeds go to a local nonprofit. We wanted to give back to the community, and we thought this would be a great way to do that.

Auction Items. Click on each auction item below to learn more about each item up for bid, review the auction rules, and start bidding! You can even view these pieces in person by visiting the shops over the next few weeks. And don't miss the feature on each designer or vintage shop inside the December issue of About. There's a link inside each auction item to read the article.

The Gist. The highest bidder for each piece will win when the auction closes on Friday, December 18, just in time for holiday gifting.

Bid generously! All proceeds from the Vintage for a Cause auction go to Habitat for Humanity, About's "Local Faves" winner in 2015 for favorite nonprofit and favorite volunteer opportunity.

The highest bidder for each piece will win when the Vintage for a Cause auction ends on Friday, Dec. 18 at 11:59 p.m. Each vintage auction item has its own page on our site where you can learn more and place your bids. Simply view the auction item you'd like to bid on, and follow the registration process on the site and place your bid in $10 increments. You can even place a proxy bid—a maximum amount you’re willing to bid—and our auction system will bid incrementally for you up to that amount. Keep an eye on the bidding between now and Dec. 18 so you don’t miss out on these incredible pieces! And remember, all proceeds from Vintage for a Cause go to Habitat for Humanity and Restore. Make sure your favorite piece wins by bidding often and bidding generously! The shop whose piece is auctioned for the highest amount will be crowned “Vintage Virtuoso”! After the auction concludes, if you are the highest bidder, you will be put in contact with the designer to set up a time to collect your prize at their shop (in time for the holidays!). And the team at About will secure your payment at the winning bid amount by credit card online via Paypal. No Paypal account? No worries! You can still pay online with your credit card. You may also pay by check. PLEASE NOTE: Shipping is NOT provided, so please only bid if you are able to arrange pickup of your piece. Serious bidders only, please. No winning item will be available for pickup until we have received your payment.
