Jaime Vahila and Rod Fox were are high school sweethearts — and have been dating for 17 years! The couple finally tied the knot Oct. 16 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minerva, with a reception following at The Quarry Golf Club in Canton. Jaime went to Malvern High School, while Rod went to Minerva High School.
They met while “cruising” the streets of Minerva, and Rod was driving his 1978 Cutlass Supreme (which he still has!). “He was (and is) a very quiet, shy guy and I was (and still am) a very loud, outgoing, bossy girl,” Jaime said. Rod proprosed on the shores of Cape Canaveral, Fla., just after the space shuttle took off in 1996. He placed the ring on a rock along the shoreline as they were watching the dolphins swim. Jaime didn’t notice the ring, so Rod eventually had to point it out to her.
The couple didn’t want to get married right away, as Jaime wanted to get through her schooling and get her career started. In 2008, the couple started building their first home together, and once it was completed in December 2009, they decided it was time to tie the knot.
